Nora's Thanksgiving 2011

Categories // Nora Updates

Thanksgiving at the Gooden's house this year was, in a word, peaceful.  No rushing, no stress, just laid back and schedule-less. So in other words, we didn't have any guests.  Really Thanksgiving is becoming a whole lot more about the start of Christmas then it is about pilgrims, indians, and those cornucopia things.  So in pure Thanksgiving fashion, we put up the Christmas tree.  Then we started the two week process of decorating the house.  Nora did help Jaime prepare the pumpkin pie although Nora seemed really confused about the process.  Probably because her own food looks a whole lot like uncooked pumpkin pie.   Side note - Pumpkin pie is about the only desert that I'd never sample as it's being prepared.

We had turkey and potatoes and green beans and rolls and stuffing and of course gravy.  It was good.  This is the second year we've used Honey Baked Ham for the main course and we are never disappointed. So we ate and Nora laid on the table and pounded out a beat with a spoon against a plate the whole time.  We briefly considered putting gravy down her feeding tube to help her put on some weight, but decided not to.

So the exciting part - the Christmas decorations.  We had the idea to put wreaths in the windows for a few years now but we've never had a way to do it cause our ladder never reached that high. So this year, we bought a new ladder.  I got the ladder into the position and Jaime would install the wreaths.  During that process, Jaime saw how dirty the windows were so it became a wreath install slash windows cleaning event.  Jaime went up the ladder instead of me because she weighs less - yeah, that's why.  So wreaths safely installed, we ate thanksgiving dinner and prepared ourselves for the best part of thanksgiving - black Friday which was spent on-line (people are nuts)!

That picture of Nora watching you put up Christmas lights is totally rad, you can see the reflection of the roof in her glasses (I am sure you already knew that) but I think that is photography at it's finest!
